Have you ever dreamed of being a swim instructor? Leading your own class of children or adults? Or perhaps Lifeguarding is more your thing?
The Y offers a comprehensive Swim Instructor and Lifeguard training program as established by YMCA Canada and the Lifesaving Society. There are many certification programs, however the YMCA prides itself on having strong educational, practical and evaluation components, integrated with our core values (caring, honesty, respect and responsibility). YMCA swim instructors also receive developmental asset training as well as healthy child development training.

Please note ALL Lifeguard Certification Courses require 100% attendance.
Course refunds will be issued up to 7 days in advance of course start date. Course cancellations within 7 days prior to course start date are subject to a $15.00 Administration Fee. Course refunds will not be issued after course start date.
Bronze Medallion (13+ years) Lifesaving Society
This course is the first step in becoming a lifeguard.
It will cover 4 components of water rescue as well as stroke efficiency and endurance.
Bronze Cross (Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion):
this course is required in order to take the NLS certification.
This is the second step to becoming a lifeguard.
Advanced training including introduction to safe supervision in aquatic environment.
National Lifeguard Service Certification (NLS) (16+ years)
NLS Certification requires that you are 16 years of age, have completed your
Bronze Cross and hold current standard first aid and CPR "C".
This course will teach you the fundamentals behind providing a safe
and professional aquatic environment for your swimming participants.
This is the final step to becoming a lifeguard.

National Lifeguard Service (NLS) Recertification (16+ years)
NLS re-certification is required every two (2) years.
First Aid & CPR
We offer First Aid and CPR training through the Lifesaving Society.
