Kawakan Karate – YMCA of Brockville and Area

In 2002 I saw an opportunity to bring Karate to the YMCA of Brockville and Area. When it began, it was a program with a fee and saw 40 participants. Over the next three years the program reached about 60 participants.

In 2005 the YMCA hired me and made karate available to the members without an addition charge. We were thrilled to see the number of participants grow to 100.

I’m proud to share that currently have 80 regular participants.

Working with a pool of dedicated volunteer instructors we have graduated 17 Black belts. We have hosted 6 seminars and competition style events as fundraisers for the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign, which provides support to those would wouldn’t be able to afford access otherwise to the YMCA.

We have participated in many local tournaments and have always done well. We want to ensure that any of our students who wish to compete do so under world class conditions with proper processes and a clear set of rules.
