Membership FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

We are open Monday to Thursday from 5:30 am to 10:30 pm, Friday 5:30 am to 8:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 7 am to 5:30 pm, and holidays .
What does my membership include?
Your membership gives you full access to the fitness center, pools, gym, a wide variety of free classes, child minding of your children in PlayCare click here for details and priority registration.
How can I get started if I’m a beginner?
All members can take advantage of a Wellness Orientation. Register today at Membership Services. 
Can I join a class anytime?
You are welcome and encouraged to participate in classes anytime. 
Do I have to pay for classes or are they included in my membership?
Most group exercise classes are included in your membership. Check the schedules in the program brochure for a listing of all programs.
What is the definition of a Family for a membership?
One or two adults living at the same residence and dependent children under the age of 18 years and/or students 18-25 years, student ID required.
What can my kids do at the Y?
In addition to all the program offerings available for kids, depending on their ages they can utilize the facility in other ways as well. We have PlayCare for the younger kids while you work out and after school Kid's Club for the kids in grades 1-7. 
Can I put my membership on hold?

To put your membership on hold for any reason we must receive written notice 15 day prior to your next payment date. You may put your membership on hold from 14 days to 180 days. A cancellation/ hold form must be completed in writing 14 days prior to bi-weekly payment dates are required.  For your convenience you may send a detailed e-mail to yba.cancel@brockville.ymca.ca.   Please see the Membership Services Desk for more details or forms.  

Can I cancel anytime?
Pre-authorized membership plans can be cancelled at any time, and must be made in writing to the YMCA of Brockville and Area or to yba.cancel@brockville.ymca.ca at least 14 days before draw date. Please note we are unable to accept cancellations by phone. Cancellations will not be backdated. No refund shall be issued for pre-authorized withdrawals.
Memberships paid in full will be pro-rated on date of request and a $20.00 plus HST administration fee will be charged. The membership card must be returned to the YMCA upon membership cancellation.
Cancellation for medical reasons is acceptable with presentation of a medical note at the time of request.

What should I wear/bring with me to work out?

Wear athletic clothing and athletic shoes, no denim or clothing with snaps, rivets or zippers. You’ll need a lock if you are going to use the locker room.
What classes do you have?
The Y has classes and programs for all ages and activity levels. The best way to view program offerings is browse through the brochure.
Is there someone who can show me how to use the machines?
All members are welcome to take advantage of a Wellness Orientation. Register today at Membership Services. 
When do you have lap swim?
It’s best to refer to the pool schedule to know when lap swim is offered.
Are there towels available?
If you require a towel we do rent towels for a minimal fee.
Can I bring guests?
Each member has unlimited share My Y passes, each guest may visit 4 times within a year.
Can I use Y’s when I’m traveling?
As a YMCA member, can I visit a YMCA in another city, province or country?
All Ys in Canada recognize and honour memberships from other Associations, so you can be sure of your welcome whether you’re traveling for work or leisure. Similarly, Canadian YMCA memberships are generally recognized and accepted by international Associations. There are, however, some exceptions, so be sure to check with the YMCA you want to visit to confirm their policy.
What is the cost of membership?
Please see our fee rates. Through the generosity of Y contributors, our goal is to have sufficient funds to ensure our Y remains available to all. Thanks to our generous donors to our annual Strong Kids Campaign, we are able to make the Y accessible through our Financial Assistance Application Form  Rev Jan 2019. These gifts provide financial assistance for individuals and families who want and need Y programs, but cannot afford them. Please click here to access our Financial Assistance page.
Do you have personal trainers?
We have several trainers to help you reach your health goals. We also offer a variety of personal trainer packages, please see the program information.
